The SS Windrush brought the first West Indies commonwealth citizens to the 'Mother Country' to seek a job but they instead faced racism and resistance. Theresa May, the Home Secretary in the Conservative government from 2010 to 2016, brought in a hostile environment for immigrants in general that led to many of the Windrush generation being wrongly detained, denied legal rights, threatened with deportation, and, in at least 83 cases wrongly deported from the UK by the Home Office.
